Disney’s Fantasia

The eminent animation of all eras, Disney's legendary Fantasia meets in Badminton theater Greece's first orchestra, the Athens State Orchestra, in a majestic celebration of images, colors and music, of course: Fantasia - Live in Concert!

Fantasia - Live in Concert is a unique coexistence of animation and classical music: The Athens State Orchestra interprets in live chosen parts of Fantasia's first music and of its sequel, Fantasia 2000, while relevant scenes of both movies will be simultaneously projected. The orchestra is conducted by its Artistic Director, Stefanos Tsialis.

The concert is repeated at 15:00 

Kalamata International Dance Festival - Opera gala

The Athens State Orchestra participates for the first time in the Kalamata International Dance Festival, presenting an Opera Gala with Dimitris Platanias and Yiannis Christopoulos, under the baguette of Miltos Logiadis.


Musical promenades at the Museums V

Zarzuelas, Spanish music and songs. Ines Zikou, the well known mezzo soprano sings some of the most charming creations of the Spanish music, in collaboration with the Metallon Quintet, an ensemble created by eminent musicians of the brass and percussion families of the Athens State Orchestra.

Celebrating Music in the Garden!

For this very special day of the year, the European Music day, in June 21st, and in one of the most convenient for this season places of Athens, the Gardens of Megaron - the Athens Concert Hall, the Athens State Orchestra prepared a programme expressing the joyful message of the day. 


Celebrating music in Petroupoli

A precursory concert for the European Music celebration (21th of June), but also a big concert by itself, is held by the Athens State Orchestra together with the 4th high school of Petroupoli; our friendship with this school started two years ago, within our educational programm "Right to Music".

Mahler said that a Symphony is like the world: it must contain everything. And this statement finds a perfect example in his Fifth Symphony, a piece of an immense beauty in which coexist the passion of love with the tragedy of death, the rationalism with a schizophrenic imagination, the whisper with a triumphing voice.

By listening to Shostakovich first symphony, it is hard to imagine that such a fullness of action and esthetic precision can be found in a 19-year old person's work! Ekhard Wycik, the internationally famous conductor from Germany interprets it, while in the second part of the programme, Vasilis Varvaresos, one of the most eminent pianists of his generation interprets Tchaikovski's concerto.

The same instrument combination takes completely different dimensions, as it interprets pieces by VonWeber, Villa-Lobos and Kapustin.

At 19:30 free guided tours to the museum will be offered by Irini Papageorgiou and Anastasia Drandaki, curators of the museum.
