Panagiotis Drakos

Bio

Panagiotis Drakos was born in Athens. He studied the flute at the Athens Conservatory under Socrates Zarganis and Urs Rüttimann. He received his diploma with the grade “Excellent” and an award. He was appointed Principal Flute in the Greek National Opera orchestra from 1982 to 1992 and in the Orchestra of Colors from its foundation in 1989 to 1992. From 1992 onwards, he has served as Principal Flute of the Athens State Orchestra. Panagiotis was a member of the chamber music ensemble “Nikolaos Mantzaros” from 1980 to 2010, of the “Trio En Organois” and the “Athens Wind Quintet”. As a soloist, he has collaborated with the Athens State Orchestra, the Thessaloniki State Orchestra, the Greek National Opera chamber orchestra, the symphonic orchestra of E.R.T., the “Camerata”, the Athens Municipality symphonic orchestra, and the Sofia State Orchestra.

He has participated in numerous recordings of works by Greek composers. He has also recorded for the Greek radio and television, as well as for the German, Swiss and Italian radio.

He teaches flute seminars in several Greek cities and he is a flute professor at the Athens Conservatory.
