New Year's Opera gala 30-12-2020
Music-lovers' enthusiastic response to the opera galas we have staged in recent years to celebrate the upcoming New Year has made them an integral part of Athens' festive season. Under the baton of the talented Kornilios Michailidis, distinguished opera singers Christina Poulitsi, Tasis Hristogiannopoulos and Hristoforos Staboglis demonstrate their exceptional vocal talents in popular arias and duets from the magic world of Italian opera.
Beethoven 250 years 04-12-2020
The distinguished Swiss Piano Trio joins forces with the Athens State Orchestra to perform Beethoven's Triple Concerto, a ‘hybrid’ work of genius which harmoniously combines the hauteur of solo rhetoric with the warmth of chamber music dialogue. The celebrated conductor Loukas Karytinos brings his respected interpretative abilities to bear on the imaginary miniatures of Greek modernism's leading exponent, Giorgos Sicilianos.
Revolutions and Revolts I
The upcoming celebration of the bicentenary of the Greek Revolution provides the inspiration for this season’s thematic cycle “Revolutions and Revolts”. The cycle will explore various aspects of the revolutionary condition and how these impact on, and are spread through, musical works. The heroic struggle of the Greek people provided the inspiration for Rossini's opera The siege of Corinth; the Orchestra will also interpret, under the baton of Phaedra Giannelou, Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 3 in C minor, Op. 37 and Theodosia Ntokou joins forces with the Athens State Orchestra to interpret Mendelssohn's Symphony no. 4 in A major, the "Italian" Symphony.
