Meet the Orchestra! 19-04-2019
Joyful and melancholic melodies, fast and slow pace, strong and soft sounds, small and big instruments, familiar and exotic rythms, words and notes, humor but also seriousness: this is the magic formula of the creation of Benjamin Britten’s ‘The young person’s guide to the Orchestra’ and Gregory Smith’s ‘Mr. Smith’s composition’, two pieces for the initiation of children and young audience in the world of music. Between them, a journey in the mystic sounds of the Organ, but also to its interior, through a movie projection.
As guides in the immense map of the symphonic music, the members of the Athens State Orchestra under Miltos Logiadis’s baton, Artistic Director of the Megaron, and the distinguished baritone Tasis Christogiannis in the role of the narrator. Urania Gasiou, organist of the Megaron, will interpret Johann Sebastian Bach’s ‘Toccata and Fuga’, while the texts of the event are signed by Sofia Topouzi, head of Educational Programmes of the Megaron – the Athens Concert Hall.

Concert for the inauguration of Kalamata Dance Megaron
The Athens State Orchestra is participating in the events of the inauguration of the Kalamata Dance Megaron, interpreting popular pieces of the repertoire that accompany the Art of Dance, but also two pieces of a festive character, directly linked to the sense of inauguration. The first of them is the ‘Overture to The Consecration of the House’, written for the inauguration of the Theater in der Josefstadt in Vienna (October 1822). The second, ‘Celebration I’ was especially created by the distinguished composer and pianist Stathis Giftakis in November 2018 for the premiere of the Kalamata Symphonic Orchestra.
