The Athens Classical Players present an enchanting journey into the world of string music, highlighting the lyrical expressiveness and rich timbres of the string orchestra. The concert opens with the youthful Little Suite by Danish composer Carl Nielsen, a work brimming with freshness and melodic inspiration. This is followed by Dag Wirén’s elegant and luminous Serenade for Strings, one of the most popular works of Scandinavian music. Alexander Scriabin’s lyrical Andante offers a moment of introspection and poetic sensitivity, before the evening culminates with Benjamin Britten’s Simple Symphony, a work full of vitality and ingenuity, a 20th-century masterpiece inspired by the composer’s youthful melodies. An eclectic blend of Scandinavian dynamism, Russian romanticism, and British elegance.
