Conductor Kyril Karabits stands with percussion soloist Dimitris Desyllas in a refined editorial portrait for the Athens State Orchestra's performance of Timpani and Orchestra. Ukranian Kiril Karabits has been for many years leading music director of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra of England, successfully conducting the symphonic ensemble in great concerts and recordings. In his debut with the Athens State Orchestra, he returns to a work he knows deeply, the ballet Spartacus, composed by Aram Khachaturian, the composer who introduced Armenian music to the hearts of the world audience. Fully acquainted with the 20th and 21st century’s avant-garde, Karabits brings to life a pioneering work by the great Greek composer, Argyris Kounadis, while expected to collaborate ideally with the leading Greek percussion virtuoso, Dimitris Desyllas, performing the cornerstone of the percussion repertoire, the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra leading percussionist Werner Thärichen’s concert.
